Finished this painting yesterday. I was interested in creating a landscape that becomes the sky as well as includes hints of unnatural, factory like sections. Like most of my work, this piece is about the world around us and its impermanence. The mountains that are my ultimate muse and disciplinarian are in a constant state of flux. That sky, as it moves over the mountain tops is much more than beautiful colors and soft textures, it is also a portal to your subconscious. At some point in this dance the industrial sections have become fused with what we see as natural. Like plastic or other man made products that aren’t going to disintegrate, they become a part of the hillside and a part of us.
Untitled, acrylic, ink, oil on foam core, Cat MT, 2011.
